Modigliani line
Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920), is one of the most important Italian artists of the twentieth century.
Painter and sculptor, Modigliani is considered the icon ofromantic and cursed artist: beautiful, brilliant, poor and passionate.
At twenty-two (in 1906) he moved to Paris to live in an artists’ commune Montmartre, at the time the beating heart of the avant-garde.
He died at the age of 36 due to a tuberculous meningitis.
Marble head
(1911-1913) At a young age Modigliani went to the marble quarries of Carrara to learn the skills of sculpture.
Subsequently, he became fascinated by the traditional sculptures of Africa and Oceania. These influences are
instantly recognizable in this head carved in stone. It is a shrine portrait, the shape of which is determined by
perfect vertical lines. It has a meditative and sacred aspect and in this respect it has ties to Modigliani's Jewish background.
Modigliani has created a series of statues with stone heads that capture a female face in a unique elongated way.
